News: Maddux Signs With Padres

According to Espn.com, the Padres and Greg Maddux finalized a one-year 10 million dollar deal. The right-handed All Star, has 347 wins, has won the Cy Young four times now, and has won 17 gold glove awards. Last year, Maddux was a number 3 starter and went 14-11 posting a 4.14 ERA. He had a option early but did not think there was enough time to decide whether he would play or not so he declined it. Though the option was worth a little less than the 10 million he is getting now.

...I think this is a great move for the Padres for a few reasons. First off the pitching market right now is not packed with great pitchers. The Padres needed a number three starter to go along with there ace, Jake Peavy, and there number two pitcher, Chris Young. This move brings a veteran pitcher to there starting rotation and help those younger guys out. He had a decent year last year and considering the fact there are not many great pitchers out there, it is a smart move. Maddux still has that 'fire' in him and will continue to field very well and pitch great games...
